Synthesized Functions

Remote

A synthesized function is a code that will duplicate a function of your original remote. The most practical use is to synthesize special functions such as Picture-In-Picture (PIP), swap and exchange or other functions that do not presently exist on the keys of our universal remote control unit.

The synthesized function codes are different according to the device and the brand. You will need to determine what Set Up Code you are using for the device (TV, VCR, etc.) and then request a list of synthesized codes for that device. These codes can be mailed, or sent via FAX to you.

Available Keys

The keys that can be used for synthesized codes are: Power, Last Channel, Play, Rewind, Fast Forward, Volume +/- and Channel +/-.

The feature can also be used in conjunction with the Set key to give you two key commands associated with a single key.

To Synthesize a Code:

  1. Press and hold Set until the green light blinks once, pauses and then blinks twice. Now release the Set key.
  2. Press and release keys 9, 9, 4. The green Ready light will blink twice.
  3. Press and release keys: [Mode], then [Set].
    For example: [TV], then [Set].
  4. Press and release the three number keys for the synthesized code: ___, ___, ___.
For example: 4, 8, 5 would be used to set up the Picture-In-Picture (PIP) function for a Hitachi TV using Set Up Code 145.
  5. Press and release the key(s) you want the synthesized code assigned to. The green Ready light will blink twice.

  6. If the designated key is within the mode selected in Step 3 and you want to use single key selection, press and release [Destination Key].

For example: Press and release [Play].

Now you will be able to select PIP when you are in the TV mode by pressing Play.

  7. If the designated key is within the mode selected in Step 3 and you want to use second level selection, press and release [Set] then the [Destination Key].

For example: Press and release [Set] then [Play].

Now you will be able to select PIP when you are in the TV mode by pressing and releasing Set then Play. While this takes two keystrokes, you have preserved the original function of the Play key.

  8. If the designated key is assigned to a different mode than the one selected in Step 3 and you want to use first level key selection, press and release [Mode] (for example Vcr) then [Destination Key].

For example: Press and release [Vcr], then [Last Ch].

Now you will be able to select PIP for the TV when you are in the Vcr mode by pressing Last Ch.

  9. If the designated key is assigned to a different mode than the one selected in Step 3 and you want to use second level key selection, press and release [Mode] (for example Vcr), then Set and then the [Destination Key].

For example: Press and release [Vcr], then [Set] and then [Play].

Now you will be able to select PIP for the TV when you are in the Vcr mode by pressing and releasing Set then Play.

Acquiring More Capacity for Synthesized Functions

If you are using less than six devices, for example if Shift TV is open, program Shift TV to also operate your TV or another component. Then put additional synthesized functions on these keys. You must go to Shift TV to access these additional functions.

Clearing These Functions

If you moved a lot of keys and you do not like what you've set up, this can be cleared. For example, to restore all functions for TV:

  1. Press and hold Set until the green light blinks once, pauses and then blinks twice. Now release the Set key.
  2. Press and release keys: 9, 9, 4. The green Ready light will blink twice.
  3. Press and release keys: [TV], [TV]. The green Ready light will blink twice.

CAUTION!

Clearing will clear both Key Copy and Synthesized Functions. In some cases, the device codes for the units will be cleared. If you do not know the device codes, you may want to determine these. In that case, see the Device Code Readback under User Features/Instructions in the User's Guide.
