Key Copy
This feature allows you to copy a function key to another position. It is most useful if you want to control the volume of an amplifier when you are in the cable mode. Alternatively, if you leave your cable box on all the time, you can copy TV Power to the Cable Power position. Then in cable mode, pressing the Power key will turn the TV on and off.
The feature can also be used in conjunction with the Set key to give you two key commands associated with a single key. This is explained in Example B below.
Destination Keys
The keys that can be used for a destination are: Power, Last Ch, Play, Rew, FF, VOL+/- and CH+/-.
Source Key
Any key can be a source key.
To Copy a Key
- Press and hold Set until the green light blinks once, pauses and then blinks twice. Now release the Set key.
- Press and release keys: 9, 9, 4. The green Ready light will blink twice.
- Press and release the mode key of the source, for example [TV], then the key you want to copy, for example [Power], then the mode key of the destination, for example [Vcr], then the key at the destination, for example [Power]. The green Ready light will blink twice.
Example A:
If you set up the Cbl device key to be an amplifier, then you might want to reassign the volume control of the TV to work from your amplifier.
- Press and hold Set until the green light blinks once, pauses and then blinks twice. Now release the Set key.
- Press and release keys: 9, 9, 4. The green Ready light will blink twice.
- Press and release keys: [Cbl] [VOL+] [TV] [VOL+]. The green Ready light will blink twice.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 above.
- Press and release keys: [Cbl] [VOL-] [TV] [VOL-]. The green Ready light will blink twice.
You can now control the amplifier volume while in the TV mode.
Example B:
Assign the Tv/Vcr key from the TV to [Set] [Last Ch] of the VCR. This will allow you to change the TV [Tv/Vcr] function while in the Vcr mode when you press and release [Set] and [Last Ch].
- Press and hold Set until the green light blinks once, pauses and then blinks twice. Now release the Set key.
- Press and release keys: 9, 9, 4. The green Ready light will blink twice.
- Press and release keys: [TV] [Tv/Vcr] [Vcr] [Set] [Play]. The green Ready light will blink twice.
You can now select Tv/Vcr while in the Vcr mode by pressing the key sequence: [Set], [Last Ch].
Clearing These Functions
If you moved a lot of keys and you do not like what you've set up, this can be cleared. For example, to restore all functions for TV:
- Press and hold Set until the green light blinks once, pauses and then blinks twice. Now release the Set key.
- Press and release keys: 9, 9, 4. The green Ready light will blink twice.
- Press and release keys: [TV], [TV]. The green Ready light will blink twice.
Clearing will clear both Key Copy and Synthesized Functions. In some cases, the device codes for the units will be cleared. If you do not know the device codes, you may want to determine these. In that case, see the Device Code Readback under User Features/Instructions in the User's Guide.
